BSNL Subscriber Base for the Past Ten Years

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), a government telecom operator in India, has financially not performed well the past 10 years. Nonetheless, its Customer base has just raised up. BSNL has added around 9 million mobile users around 2014. At March 31, 2014, BSNL had 9,46,49,445 (94.6 million) Mobile users. This number raised up to 10,36,83,498 (103.6 million) mobile users at March 31, 2023. With the launch of 4G and 5G trails in short period, the govt run telecom firm will probably add more users.

It is 2022-23 which was an exceptionally hard period for BSNL. At March 31, 2022, BSNL’s total users base was 113 million. However, after a year, as referenced over, the user base falls to 103.6 million (lost around 10 million subscribers in a year). 2022 private telecom companies rolled out 5G and extended 4G aggressively. This could have prompted BSNL losing supporters of Airtel and Jio. Indeed, even Vi’s 4G would be a superior suggestion for BSNL users who are left with old 3G network services.

But, active users are a more significant for telecom company’s efficiency as opposed to contrasting their user base. Toward the end of March 31, 2014, BSNL had around 60 million active subscribers. At March 31, 2023, BSNL’s user count was 53.66 million. So active subscribers have reduced throughout the past ten years. This is due to lack of 4G and 5G services. In any case, a large portion of BSNL’s users are 2G/3G customers.

Because of this, more users are leaning toward private telecom services. But, BSNL now aggressively expanding in 4G and 5G Pan India. The decrease in total active users has damaged BSNL’s financial income. Its ARPU (average revenue per user) will likewise be impacted adversely and will hurt the reality incomes
