Claro Colombia has successfully obtained the 5G spectrum in order to bring advanced technology to the country following a recent auction. The company has stated that customers will soon enjoy the advantages of 5G mobile internet, including high speeds and lower latency. Claro has committed to investing 568 billion pesos in the 5G network in Colombia. With the acquisition of 80 MHz in the 3.5 GHz spectrum, Claro is now preparing to roll out 5G mobile internet in the coming year.

They believe that the arrival of 5G will revolutionize Colombia’s economic and social development, offering high speed and massive connection capacity that will create new opportunities for various entities such as large companies, SMEs, entrepreneurs, citizens, and the State itself, in terms of both mobile and fixed connectivity.

Claro Colombia broadens its 4G services and fiber connectivity.

In a news update, Claro Colombia revealed notable advancements in its mobile and fiber infrastructure. The telecommunications company made investments to provide mobile internet access to 765 rural communities and expand optical fiber to 15 additional cities, thereby improving connectivity across around 142 areas.

To address worries regarding the financial feasibility of investing in remote regions, Claro highlighted that the funds allocated for towers in such areas are not retrieved. The company approximated an investment of USD 250,000 per base station for these remote regions.

According to reports from local media, Claro’s investments in 2023 have already provided 390,000 Colombians with their first access to 4G mobile internet. Additionally, 587,000 households in 15 cities now have fiber connectivity. Claro invested USD 190 million in mobile 4G and another USD 25 million in fiber infrastructure in 2023 alone.
