Fujitsu Boosts Open RAN Efficiency by AI-Pilot with Energy Saving.

Fujitsu has reached a significant achievement in Open RAN technology by successfully incorporating AI-driven power-saving features into Virtuora Service Management and Orchestration (SMO).

Fujitsu has recently achieved successful interoperability tests by integrating its Virtuora Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) for Open RAN with a power-saving application by AI technology. This integration has resulted in over 20 percent power savings compared to traditional methods, thanks to the company’s rApp, which incorporates machine learning and AI-driven traffic estimates to dynamically adjust network capacity. These tests, conducted in November 2023 with RAN equipment, have effectively demonstrated the effectiveness of Fujitsu’s Virtuora SMO offering.

Interoperability Tests yielded positive results.

Fujitsu has successfully completed interoperability tests with a third-party system-level RAN emulator that complies with O-RAN specifications. These tests were conducted using the VIAVI TeraVM RIC test provided by VIAVI Solutions, an American telecommunications network measurement equipment vendor. Fujitsu’s AI training solution, which operates on a containerized platform, validates Open RAN RIC, xApps, and rApps, aligning with O-RAN specifications.

The company announced these results in a press release during the O-RAN ALLIANCE Global PlugFest Fall 2023. The results of the multi-vendor interoperability test demonstrated that Fujitsu’s Virtuora SMO can successfully connect to RAN equipment from third-party vendors and showcased the potential for power savings.

In the future, Fujitsu intends to drive the advancement and strengthening of the multi-vendor Open RAN ecosystem, aiding telecom carriers in minimizing operational expenses and expediting the development of new services. The organization has expressed its commitment to actively contribute to carbon-neutral network operations by employing groundbreaking power-saving technologies.
